Being a mum again - Teresa’s story

Teresa is the first to admit that without the level of support she’s had from ForHousing, she wouldn’t be where she is today.

For years, Teresa was in and out of hospitals battling mental health and substance misuse problems. Following a two-and-a-half-year stint in rehab, and a new home, things began to change for the better.

Teresa explains: “I was in a real dark place, mentally, physically and emotionally. Being allocated here has been great – I’m a lot more stable.”

Homes set the foundation for our lives and give people from all social circumstances, a chance to thrive. Teresa says that having a home has played a massive part in helping her towards a brighter future.

“All I ever wanted was to live somewhere like this,” she says. This is a home – because I’ve never really had a home.

“It’s been a massive positive impact on my mental health and wellbeing. It’s helped me to move forward,” she adds.

Teresa describes the support she’s received as “amazing” and enjoys playing an active part in her community. She’s feeling very positive about the future and is looking forward to getting a job.

“I’m going to go back and volunteer for a few months at the hospital and then go back into employment,” she says.

Best of all she can be a mum again.

Teresa says: “Just been a mum to my children is really important.”
