Klara's Story

Providing customer-focused services that help to positively impact the lives of our social housing tenants is our priority.

For seven years Klara sofa surfed and didn’t take her prescribed medication properly, meaning she would end up in hospital a couple of times a year, and for up to several months at a time. At Klara’s last in-patient admission, she started treatment to help keep her stable and well. This time around it was identified that for Klara to get her life back on track, she needed to secure her own tenancy. She was put forward and accepted on to the Delayed Transfer of Care project, which supports people to leave hospital by securing their own tenancy with wrap-around support. From listening to, and working with Klara, we developed the knowledge to identify what sort of home would help meet her needs and luckily, a home became available exactly where she wanted to live, near her son.

Klara told us this project has saved her life, without it she would have been homeless or in a hostel forever. Getting this flat has brought her closer to her family again, including her previously estranged daughter. Now Klara is so proud of herself because she has a home she can take pride in.

Klara said being given everything in the flat has made a massive difference. She said, “I was worried about living alone and being lonely but now I feel really settled, happy and positive.”
