Clifton Community Fun Day brings joy to the local community

Families in Clifton were recently brought together in the sunshine for free entertainment and education about how they can tackle environmental issues in their local area.

The Fun Day was kindly hosted by St. Thomas Church and provided by The Keeping Clifton Clean Partnership. The Community Fun Day saw 207 children and adults join in with flowerpot arranging, storytelling, sports workshops, facepainting and a guided walk with litter picking.

Local mum, Demi, was thankful for the event as it provided entertainment for her children during the half-term break. She said, “Apart from the new youth club in the area for older children, there aren’t many events and clubs for younger children. This has given them a couple of hours to get out there and have fun!”.

In attendance at the Fun Day was Salford’s City Mayor, Paul Dennett, who praised the collaboration between partners to deliver the event. He said: “ForHousing has been instrumental in financing this and bringing partners together. It’s wonderful to be here today to see everyone together here in the great weather and demonstrating the spirit of Salford.”

Mike Parkin, ForHousing CEO, praised the community spirit of the event saying: “It’s great to see the community together. It’s important, especially during the school holidays, to ensure that the kids have got something to do.”

Community Development Manager, Annie MacLean was thrilled with the interest that the community has shown in improving the local area. She said, “Talking to people, it’s clear that there is community interest and spirit to make a change.”
