Tenant Welfare Fund

Five tenants living in our Extra Care schemes received funding throughout the year from the Tenant Welfare Fund. This help has been invaluable to the tenants who, before living in Extra Care, were either homeless or living in homes not suitable for their needs.

The team managing the Tenant Welfare Fund applications used a tenant-focused approach in authorising the applications, to avoid any unnecessary delays. The support has made a huge difference to their wellbeing, as they now have homes which are safe and where they live independently and happily.

Paul, one of our new tenants in Extra Care, was living in a high-rise home and arrived in his new home with very little. The furniture and belongings he had in his old home been had sourced from bins and recycling areas, so they weren’t in the best condition. The team worked with Paul to understand what he needed and sourced some items that other tenants were gifting, as well as reaching out to the Tenant Welfare Fund to source more items. In the end, Paul benefited from a new bed and bedding set, tv, armchair, coffee table and toaster, which made a massive difference to his life.

Paul said, “The ForHousing team have helped me 100%. I was ready to sleep on the floor before I got my new bed.

“I can’t remember the last time I got a good night’s sleep; all the extra furniture and extra items have helped improve my mood and my energy levels have increased. The funding and support, and just being listened to, it has helped me so much, I am so happy!”

Billy, one of our existing tenants in Extra Care was previously living in a bungalow. His family were looking after Billy, but he needed a more supported environment with staff onsite 24/7. From speaking with his family, we understood that Billy struggled managing his own finances and was at high risk of financial exploitation. We arranged with the relevant authorities for Billy to have an advocate who now supports him, and the team made an application for funding through the Tenant Welfare Fund to buy a double bed and bedding set on his behalf.
