What is tenancy fraud?

Tenancy fraud happens when someone isn’t telling the truth about their circumstances to get a housing association home.

There are different types of tenancy fraud:

  • When someone says they need a home because they don’t have anywhere to live but they do
  • When someone gets a house, but they rent it to someone else without telling the council or landlord. This means they make money from renting out their home when they’re not supposed to

1. If you know someone who has a council home but doesn’t live there

2. If they’re always talking about renting out their house but they’re the tenant

If you notice these signs it’s important to report it, so we can make sure homes are being used fairly and properly and go to people that need them.
