Bins, waste and recycling

At ForHousing, we’re not responsible for the collection and disposal of household waste, it is your local council.

It’s best to contact your local council who can tell you:

  • What rubbish is collected and when
  • What goes in your recycling bin
  • How to report a missed bin collection
  • How to find your nearest recycling centre
  • Ordering new bins for your home

We want to empower you to feel confident and able to commit to making greener choices, here are a few ways you can impact the environment.

Recycling

Why it is important?

Recycling is good for the environment. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions that are used to create new products and conserves natural resources by giving objects an extra life.

By reducing the amount of rubbish that goes into landfills, recycling protects habitats and cuts down on methane produced from rotting waste.

Recycling rules:

Recycling rules are not the same in every part of the country. Local councils have different bins, and what you can put in each bin varies massively. Some houses also have access to food waste bins, but some do not.

If you’re in doubt about what you can and can’t recycle, visit your local council website, or the Recycle Now website. Just enter your postcode and it will tell you what you can and can’t recycle.
