Lubna's story

Lubna originally lived in London with her family, however the family was split up when her and her siblings were placed into Local Authority Care. Lubna came to Salford when she was 18 to live with one of her older siblings, however the relationship broke down and she found herself homeless.

After being placed in temporary accommodation, she was offered a one-bedroom flat with ForHousing. Through ForHousing’s care leavers pledge, we took the time to get to know Lubna and what mattered to her. She was offered support with buying essential items such as carpets, blinds and a washing machine. She was also given decorating and furniture vouchers to help her turn her flat into a home she could take pride in. Lubna was excited to have a home of her own which has had a positive impact on her life as she’s since managed to secure a job in a warehouse.

Lubna said “Moving into my new home is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Without the support from ForHousing I would never have been able to afford to furnish my flat and with the support from my Housing Officer I’ve learnt how to manage a home and pay my bills.”
