A new children’s play area has opened in Stockbridge Village

A celebration event has been held to mark the opening of a new children’s play area in Stockbridge Village.

Children and families were invited to the event which gave locals the chance to try out the new state of the art play area – as well as join in fun activities, including sports and craft sessions.

The event also recognised the contribution of Stockbridge Action Youth (SAY) group who played a key role in producing plans for the £75,000 play area which replaced the previous outdated facilities located next to Stockbridge Neighbourhood Centre at The Withens.

Funding for the project came from the Veolia Environmental Trust, following a successful funding bid by Knowsley Council in partnership with ForHousing, Stockbridge Action Youth and Vibe.

The new play space features toddler play equipment including swings and a climbing unit, as well as children’s trim trail pieces.

Designs for the new play area were shaped by feedback from local young people and the community, who highlighted the need for toddler swings and a space for smaller children to play, as well as more inclusive equipment.

Knowsley Council’s Executive Director for Communities and Neighbourhoods, Andrew Donaldson said: “This fabulous new play area is a great example of true partnership working and engaging with the local community about the facilities that matter to them. We have listened to the views of young people and ensured their wishes were reflected in the creation of this exciting new play park which will be used by local families for years to come.”

Martyn Hague, Executive Director of Customer at ForHousing said: “It’s fantastic to see the creative ideas of local young people brought to life in this new playpark. At ForHousing we’re committed to making a positive impact on the lives of our tenants and listening to what matters most to them. So, it was great to work with local young people and local partners to make this community project happen.”

Local mum Salina, whose daughter was a member of the SAY group added: “I think it’ll make a huge difference to Stockbridge as a community as there is more for the kids to do and we’re not having to travel loads. We’ve got something on our doorstep now that we can take the kids to. My daughter is proud of herself for being a part of something so positive.”

If you live in the local area and would like to visit your park yourself, you can find it at The Withens, Stockbridge Village, Liverpool L28 1AB.
