The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) wants your views on four new draft standards which aim to improve tenant protection and service quality in social housing.

These changes are influenced by the Grenfell Tower incident and sit alongside the Social Housing (Regulation) Act which introduces new rules landlords must follow.

New rules include:

• Surprise inspections – with just 48 hours notice
• Involvement from RSH to tell landlords to improve if they’re not meeting standards
• Detailed timescales for landlords to respond to and investigate repairs

There are four main standards they’re looking to introduce, which all landlords must meet to make sure you can live in safe, quality homes, have choice and protection and can hold landlords to account. These standards are:

• Safety and Quality
• Transparency and Accountability
• Neighbourhood and Community
• Tenancy
