Funding to help tenants living in our extra care schemes

Five tenants living in our Extra Care schemes have received funding from the Tenant Welfare Fund. This help has been invaluable to the tenants who before living in Extra Care who were either homeless or residing in properties not suitable for their needs.

The team managing the Tenant Welfare Fund applications have been very proactive in authorising the applications, so this didn’t cause any delay to the tenant, and we were able to secure items for the tenants.

We have a couple of good news stories which really warmed our hearts, the difference the help has made to the tenant’s wellbeing is immeasurable, they have a home which is safe and a home where they can maintain their independence.

Paul, one of our new tenants in Extra Care was living in a high rise, the furniture and belongings he had in his old property, he had sourced from bins and recycling areas, these items were not in the best condition. Paul arrived at Extra Care with very little. The team managed to source some items that other tenants were gifting but we also reached out to the Tenant Welfare Fund to source more items. The Tenant Welfare Fund provided funding to purchase a new bed, a new tv, armchair, bedding set, coffee table and a toaster.

Paul says ‘They have helped me 100%. I was ready to sleep on the floor before I got my new bed.

I can’t remember the last time I got a good night’s sleep; All the extra furniture and extra items have helped improve my mood. My energy levels have increased because I am getting a good night’s sleep.  Having a new TV has helped relieve boredom and pass the time when I want to be on my own in my new property. I would definitely recommend applying for the funding, it has helped me so much, I am so happy!’

Billy, one of our existing tenants in Extra Care was previously living in a bungalow. His family were looking after Billy, but he needed a more supported environment with staff onsite 24/7. Billy lacked understanding when managing his own finances and is high at risk of financial exploitation. Billy now has an advocate who supports him. The team made an application for funding through the Tenant Welfare Fund and purchased a double bed and bedding set on his behalf.

This is just some of the great difference the funding has provided, the funding that led to all their homes being extra special have made our tenants very happy!
