Listening and working with you

We want to positively impact lives and put you at the heart of everything we do.

This year, a neighbourhood inspection found a garden to be in a poor condition. The grass was extremely overgrown and the garden wasn’t being maintained by the tenant because of his complex mental health issues.

We were aware the tenant had authorised for his brother to have ‘authority to act’ and, when we reached out to him, he agreed to arrange a visit so we could listen to the issues and work together to find a solution. We learned that the tenant didn’t have funds available to buy garden tools or a lawn mower, so we used our LiveWell fund, which offers one off payments for tenants in financial hardship, to buy garden tools. We also learned that the tenant hadn’t been willing to engage with us before because he was worried he would lose his home. On the next visit, the garden was neat and tidy and, most importantly, the tenant was happy about the service we provided and how his worries had been listened to. He was much more open to building a relationship with his Neighbourhood Officer – who now visits him often just for a brew and a catch up.
