World Mental Health Day!

We are proud to be supporting World Mental Health Awareness Day!

This year’s campaign theme is ‘Mental Health for All’. It’s more important than ever that we to look after our mental health, and in some ways, COVID-19 has broken barriers and created more awareness on mental health. We must make sure that these conversations continue as we enter the “new normal”.

Kindness strengthens relationships, develops community and deepens solidarity; and at a time like this, it’s important that we show others just how much we care.

Carrying out an act of kindness doesn’t need to be a huge gesture. Catching up with a loved one over a video call, having a natter over the phone or sending a simple text message can really help lift spirits and battle feelings of loneliness and isolation.

Staying digitally connected with the closest people in your life is one of the fastest ways to boost your wellbeing and to keep you feeling positive. It’s also a kind and easy way to show your friends and family that you’re there to support them.

But where do you start if you’re stuck at home and have never used the internet? We’re here to help you begin your digital journey, so you can stay connected with those you love.

We’ve created some guides to help you, or your friends, take that first step on to the internet, and how to use apps like WhatsApp, HouseParty and Zoom, so you can keep in touch with your loved ones.

Before we start talking about websites and apps, we need to get the basics in check first. If you’ve never surfed the web, or need a kick start in connecting to the internet, check out our getting started online guide, which will show you how!

WhatsApp is a fast and free app that can help you keep in touch with your friends and family. We’ve put together a Whatsapp guide on how to set up and send messages, as well as make phone and video calls.

Social media sites are one of the most popular ways to stay connected with the people you love. Whether you want to chat with friends, share photos and videos, or keep up to date with the latest news, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at our social media guide to find out how to set up and use both Facebook and Instagram.

You may not be able to visit your family and friends in person, but that shouldn’t put a stop to you seeing their smiling faces. We’ve put together a video calling guide on two popular apps, Houseparty and Zoom, so you can video chat with confidence.

You may be tech savvy, but do you know someone who’s yet to get online? If you’d like to help them to take the first steps into the digital world, take a look at our supporting a loved one to get online guide for some advice on how you can get them up to speed.

If you need help to manage and maintain your mental health during this time, we’ve pulled together some top tips and advice on how to stay well during lockdown.
