We're always here to help

We wanted to mark such a special occasion with some celebrations of our own!

At 3pm on Friday 8th May, from the comfort of our own homes, we raised a glass to the millions of people that gave so much to make sure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today. We hope you enjoyed whatever way you commemorated the occasion too!

Some Extra Care and Supported Housing schemes also hosted an VE Day parties throughout the week, where tenants enjoyed outdoor entertainment and VE Day themed decorations from their private balconies. Family members of tenants even joined in from a distance, so they could see and celebrate safely with their loved ones. You can view some of the heart-warming footage on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

Whilst VE Day marks such a huge moment of history, we know it’s important to offer support to veterans all year round.

We are proud to have pledged our commitment and support for the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC).

The Armed Forces Covenant focusses on helping members of the armed forces community have the same access to government, commercial services and products as any other citizen.

Working with the AFC provides a chance for us all to show support to those who make up the armed forces community. This includes people still serving, those that have served, separated spouses, widowers and family members.

We raise awareness so that we can identify those people and their families that might need additional support.

There are a number of ways we offer support to veterans on a regular basis.

· Once a month, our local ForHousing offices will become drop in centres for those in armed forces community looking for advice and support.

· We have placed desk signs in all our reception areas, to promote our forces friendly approach. This makes sure that veterans get the help they need in confidence, before they reach crisis point.

· We offer direct referrals for support to new and existing tenants.

Working in partnership, we’re proud to have rehoused 54 armed forces members, who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, in the past year.

If you, or a loved one, are in the armed forces community and need advice, support or an extra helping hand, please get in touch with us today.
