Take part in our Future Matters challenge, and make real change in your neighbourhood

We’re passionate about empowering you to find manageable ways to create a better, greener home environment and community.

That’s why we’re launching “Future Matters”, our campaign to support you in future-proofing your home and neighbourhood.

Future Matters is all about decarbonisation – but what is that?

Decarbonisation means reducing the amount of energy and resources that we use. It focuses on removing as much carbon from the atmosphere as possible.

The Government have set a goal of bringing all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, and we’re ready to play our part in making this happen.

Let’s get into how decarbonisation can help you not only protect the planet and take care of your family, but also save on your bills!

It saves you money…

Reducing the amount of water, gas, and electricity you use can save you money on utility bills.

For example, just turning off the lights when you leave a room or turning off electrical appliances like TVs, computers and fans can save up to £15 a year.

Even switching out your light bulbs to LEDs instead of halogen bulbs can save up to 80% in how much energy they use and can way over five years.

It saves the environment…

By using less energy, you can have a huge impact on reducing the effects of global warming, which causes climate change.

Climate change is how the temperature and typical weather patterns adjust based on “human activities” such as burning fossil fuels (natural gas, oil, and coal) or agriculture, deforestation and a pile up of waste.

Just think of the sea ice and snow cover shrinking, freak natural disasters happening more frequently, and an increase in animals becoming extinct. You don’t have to look far from home to see how climate change is affecting your community and those around you, like the terrible floods on Boxing Day 2015 in Greater Manchester.

It saves our future…

We want to guarantee a bright future for the next generation. By cutting down on energy use now, we can make the world a better place for our children, and their children.

We still have a little time left to change what’s happening to our planet – we can each take steps to leave a positive impact and create a safe and peaceful future for those we love.

Even though the changes may seem small, they DO make a difference and empower other people to do the same.

October’s challenge

This month we’re asking you to… turn the tap off when brushing your teeth!

Sounds simple, but it’s easy to forget, especially when you’re tired or in a rush. By making this tiny change you can save the equivalent of up to a hundred showers a year, per person.

If you want to take it a step further and become a real future champion, you can also save water whilst washing your hands, dishes, or cooking.

Wash fruits and veg in a pan of water instead of under the tap, fill your sink with water and do them all at once instead of one-by-one, and turn the tap off when you’re scrubbing your hands!

To be the difference, everyone has a part to play. Are you with us?
