Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign, dedicated to recognising and celebrating the incredible impact volunteers have on our communities. There are so many inspiring individuals giving their time and energy to support others and help make where you live a more connected, welcoming and positive place.
To celebrate, we’ve been visiting a variety of community spaces across Salford, Oldham and Stockbridge Village where volunteers play a vital role in bringing these places to life. From busy community hubs and food clubs to allotments and wellbeing activities, their contribution helps create spaces where people feel supported, included and part of something bigger.
Take a look below to meet some of these fantastic volunteers, hear their stories and find out more about the difference they are making in their communities, and how you can get involved.
At Poorlots Allotments, volunteers are helping to nurture an outdoor space that the whole community can enjoy. By caring for the growing areas and sharing their gardening knowledge, they help keep the allotment welcoming and accessible for everyone.
Working in partnership with Recreate‑U, a community-led organisation that delivers outdoor wellbeing activities to support children and families, they also run sessions for local children. These activities give young people the opportunity to learn about growing food, spend time outdoors, and connect with nature. Bringing together people of all ages, the sessions help strengthen community bonds and foster a greater sense of connection.
