Every home we allocate represents a fresh start, a place where someone can feel safe, settle in, and begin the next chapter of their life.
ForHousing tenant Sharon needed a home that better supported her independence as her mobility needs changed.
After bidding on several properties, she was offered a ground floor flat, but concerns about repairs and the wider block left her feeling unsure about moving forward.
Colleagues from across teams stayed closely connected with Sharon, taking the time to understand her needs and work together on a better solution.
This meant Sharon was offered a bungalow that was more suitable for her. With support from the Move Squad, she settled into her new home and shared that her quality of life has improved and she can now manage more independently.
Her story shows how a person-centred approach can make a real difference.
Sharon’s story is just one example of the difference this work is making for tenants across our communities. Over the past year, we’ve supported people at key moments in their housing journey, including:
- 840 homes allocated through local lettings systems
- 798 tenants supported to move on from their previous home
- 86 homes matched to help people leave temporary accommodation
- 111 new build homes allocated
- 88 tenants supported to move into homes that better meet their needs
Alongside helping people move, we’ve also supported tenants to settle into their homes and build stability.
This includes referrals to services such as Mustard Tree, a charity providing access to essentials like food, clothing and furniture, as well as wider wellbeing and employment support.
We’ve also introduced a new case management app to improve the lettings process. It creates a more consistent service and has reduced administration time for new lets. Plans are in place to introduce reporting, helping us better understand performance and continue improving the service.
We want to support even more people to find a home that’s right for them, with the right support in place from day one.
