Hello, I’m Annie, and I’m a Community Development Officer here at ForHousing.
I wanted to share a moment that really highlighted for me the value of investing in our communities, and how even a small amount of support can open doors for local people and strengthen opportunities for children and families. Our Community Fund offers small grants to support local projects that strengthen wellbeing, build connections, and empower people to make a positive difference where they live. It’s one of the ways we help local groups bring their ideas to life, creating opportunities that support people’s wellbeing and strengthen pride in our communities.
Last September, we supported Blossoming Butterflies with a Community Fund Grant to deliver six Zumba sessions for 5–10 year olds at Volair Leisure Centre in Stockbridge. What began as a simple idea , creating free indoor activities for children during the winter months, became the starting point for something much bigger.
The funding helped give project coordinator Kerry the support she needed to grow her fantastic Zumba and dance offer across Knowsley. The sessions gave children the opportunity to stay active, learn dances from different cultures, and take part in a family showcase. And it didn’t stop there. Since completing the project, Kerry has gone on to bring her energy and passion to Safari Kids Club and Play Streets, reaching even more young people and families across the community.
Kerry had this to say about the funding she recieved,”I am so grateful for the Community Fund. It’s been fantastic. Playing Zumba Kids games supported the children’s physical fitness. They have also learnt dances from different cultures across the world and taken part in a showcase for their families.”
Moments like this remind me why these projects matter. It’s not just about the sessions delivered, it’s about the people behind them, the wellbeing of our communities, and the positive change that happens when someone is given the support they need to help others thrive.
