Safari Kids Club in Stockbridge awarded prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service

Safari Kids Club, a cherished community-run children’s club in Stockbridge, has been honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This accolade—the highest award for voluntary groups in the UK, equivalent to an MBE—recognises the club’s exceptional support for children and families in the area.

“Everyone at Safari Kids Club is so excited and honoured to receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service”, said Pam Richards, Treasurer for Safari Kids Club.

“It’s an amazing recognition for all the volunteers who work tirelessly to make this happen and shines a light on the brilliant community of Stockbridge.”

The children’s club is made up of parents, carers, and community members who are passionate about making a difference in their local area.

Every Saturday, the club welcomes 70 children and their families at the Volair Sports Centre in Stockbridge, with sessions including activities such as dance, sports, and arts and crafts.

Beyond the sessions, the club provides vital support, a welcoming space for socialising, and guidance for families seeking additional assistance.

Additionally, the club runs a recycled school uniform scheme, a free cafe for two days a week, and supports families with holiday provision activities throughout the year.

Safari Kids Club also works closely with us and our Community Development Team to deliver Play Streets, another holiday provision group commissioned with funding from the Holiday Activities Fund, Department of Education, ForHousing, Knowsley Council’s SNAP programme and One Knowsley.

Representatives of Safari Kids Club will receive the crystal award and certificates from Lord-Lieutenant Mark Blundell (the Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside and two volunteers from the club will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May and June 2025, along with other recipients of this year’s award.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to support their communities. It was created in 2022 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and has continued following the accession of His Majesty The King.
