Buying a home

Buying a home doesn’t have to be a daunting process, there are options to make it easier for you to become a homeowner.

Buying your home

After living in your ForHousing home for a while you may be able to buy it at a price lower than market value thanks to the Preserved Right to Buy (PRTB), Right to Buy (RTB) and Right to Acquire (RTA) schemes.

You have to meet a certain criteria and have held your tenancy for a certain amount of time, so it may not apply to you.

The best way to find out whether you can buy you home is to contact us if you would like to find out more.

An overview of who can and who cannot buy or acquire their home is in the sections below.  Please click on the area you live in.

If you were a tenant of Salford City Council at the time of transfer to City West Housing Trust on 6th October 2008 you may have the Preserved Right to Buy.

If you became a tenant of City West Housing Trust after 6th October 2008, you may be eligible for Right to Acquire. Your eligibility against the criteria and minimum tenancy period will be checked during the application process.

If you were a tenant of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council at the time of transfer to Villages Housing Association on 15th March 2004 you may have the Preserved Right to Buy.

If you became a tenant of Villages Housing Association/ForHousing Limited after 15th March 2004, you may be eligible for Right to Acquire. Your eligibility against the criteria and minimum tenancy period will be checked during the application process.

If you were a tenant of Villages Housing Association between 1983 and 1989 and have held a tenancy since that time you may have the Right to Buy.

If you became a tenant of Villages Housing Association or ForHousing Limited after 1989 then you will not be eligible for the Right to Buy or Right to Acquire except for a small number of properties in Huyton. Your eligibility against the criteria and minimum tenancy period will be checked during the application process.

For the first 12 months of your tenancy, you will not be able to take part in any of the above schemes, so you can sit back and enjoy your home!

After this period, you have the Right to Acquire your home, if you meet the criteria.

This may exclude some housing schemes such as sheltered housing.

If you meet the criteria, you may have the Preserved Right to Buy.
