Social housing landlord ForHousing has secured planning approval to deliver 46 much‑needed affordable homes designed to support older people in the heart of Eccles.
The new development, located on Fox Street, will provide 39 one‑bedroom and seven two‑bedroom apartments, all available for social rent. The scheme is designed to support independent living for people with a level of care and support needs, the majority of whom are aged over 55. It will offer accessible, adaptable homes that enable residents to live safely and comfortably while remaining independent for as long as possible.
The £17m development is due to start on site in early 2027 and is earmarked for completion in Autumn 2028.
Delivered in partnership with Halsall Lloyds Partnership, the scheme will be built using modern methods of construction, incorporating the Intrastack frame solution. This approach will support a faster, more efficient and environmentally responsible build, helping to bring these much needed homes to Salford sooner.
Each home will include accessible design features and flexible layouts, allowing residents to adapt their home over time rather than having to move elsewhere. The homes will help to bridge the gap between general needs housing and more intensive care settings.
The development will include several fully wheelchair adapted apartments, along with storage and charging facilities for up to 18 electric mobility scooters, ensuring tenants can live independently and safely for longer. The Fox Street location also offers excellent transport links and a range of shops and local amenities within walking distance.
Developments like Fox Street are an important part of ensuring residents can stay in their communities as they grow older.
