Ahead of Armed Forces Day on 27 June, I wanted to share a recent example that shows the difference a safe, stable home, and the right support, can make for veterans. As well as the part we all play in helping people feel settled in our communities.
I’ve been working with David, a veteran who came to us during a really difficult time. When he was offered his home, it wasn’t just about having somewhere to live, it was about feeling safe, settled and able to move forward. We took things at his pace, focusing on helping him settle in and make it feel like home. Even small things, like working on his garden together, made a big difference.
I still check in with David regularly, helping him stay connected and continue building his confidence.
David’s story shows that a home is just one part of the journey. Ongoing support also plays an important role in helping people feel secure, connected and able to move forward.
