Latest update on Salford COVID testing

Posted: 04/09/2020

We all have a part to play in keeping each other safe and reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Over a phased rollout in the next few weeks, Salford is leading the way in developing a new way to test for the virus.

The traditional nose and throat swab test will be replaced by a quick and simple saliva test.

Once the new test is up and running, anyone who lives, works and studies in Salford will be able to test on a weekly basis.

You will be asked to provide saliva into a container, which will then be sent to a laboratory.

This new way of testing will be aimed at those who don’t have symptoms of COVID-19 and will play a part in identifying positive cases early.

Testing within the community will also make sure that anyone who tests positive for coronavirus can quickly follow social isolating advice.

People who think they have coronavirus symptoms should still use the existing national testing system and sites. You can find more information here.

If you’re unsure how to proceed please contact your local GP who can give you further information. We are not able to book testing appointments for you.

We’re always here to support you. If you have any questions about our current ways of working, please send us an email on, or speak to us on live chat.
