Six ways to save water at home

We hear a lot about saving water, but why is it important?

To help the environment

It takes energy to filter water and transport it to our homes, businesses, and communities. The less water we use, the more energy is saved. This reduces pollution and conserves fuel resources, helping to reduce the impact of global warming.

To save you money on utility bills

A few easy changes can help you to save a considerable amount on your water bill. With other energy bills rapidly increasing, saving water is a good way to keep costs down.

To conserve resources

Only 3% of the water on Earth is freshwater, and only 0.5% is available for drinking! With not much to go around, and the population constantly growing, it is important to conserve resources so that there is enough water to go around, for everyone in the world.

Using less water even helps to prevent potential future costs that could be triggered by water shortages.

So, here are 6 top tips to use less water around the house…

Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth

We’ve all heard this one, but there is a reason why. It’s easy to do and can save six litres of water per minute!

Take shorter showers.

Showers can use anything between six and 45 litres per minute. If there are multiple people living in your house, the amount of water used by showers alone can be huge. By taking shorter showers, and even the occasional bath instead of a long shower, you can save a lot of water.

Use a washing up bowl

Instead of leaving the water running when you wash the dishes, use a washing up bowl, to help to conserve water. You can find one for as little as a pound from your local bargain household discount shop.

Always use full loads in your washing machine

Putting on full washes, and not doing small loads in between, helps reduce the amount of water, and the electricity you are paying for. If you have a dishwasher, only do full loads with that too.

Fill a jug or bottle with tap water and put it in the fridge

This saves water because you don’t have to wait for the tap to run cold when you want a drink. It is also convenient, and you could even get a water filter jug to improve your water quality.

Fix a dripping tap

A dripping tap can waste 15 litres of water a day, or 5,500 litres of water a year. If you have a dripping tap that you can’t fix, reach out to us and we’ll solve it together!

Reducing water is an easy, cost-effective way to help the environment that everybody can get involved in.
