Hi, I’m Daren. I’m part of your local Housing Officer team.
I’m here, along with the rest of the team, to support you in your home and help look after your neighbourhood.
We know some people haven’t always been clear about what we do, who to contact, or how to get support. We’ve listened to that feedback and made some changes to improve this.
You’re now supported by a team of Housing Officers working in your area.
That means there’s a group of us who know your neighbourhood and can support you when you need it. You might not always deal with the same person, but working as a team helps us make sure things are picked up and followed through.
You should have recently received an email introducing you to your Housing Officer team.
No two days are the same in this role, which is one of the things I really enjoy.
A typical day can include:
- Checking what’s been reported and following up on issues
- Visiting you at home and carrying out inspections
- Supporting you with things like heating, bills, or general advice
- Helping people through more difficult situations
- Working with colleagues and other services to get issues sorted
Some days I’m out in the neighbourhood, and other days I’m working behind the scenes — but both are about making sure you get the support you need.
Over the past year, Housing Officers across your neighbourhoods have:
- Carried out 9,752 block inspections and 65 neighbourhood inspections
- Completed 5,688 tenancy visits
- Removed 1,056 cases of fly tipping and cleared 898 items from communal areas
- Supported tenants through 301 welfare concerns and 55 safeguarding cases
Some of this you’ll see, and some happens in the background — including working with partners to resolve issues in your area.
This work helps us to:
- Keep your neighbourhood clean, safe and well maintained
- Spot and sort issues early
- Support you to stay safely in your home
- Help you access the right support when you need it
A big part of our role is supporting people through difficult situations.
For example, one of my colleagues recently supported a tenant through major repairs and follow-on issues in their home. This included arranging temporary accommodation and providing ongoing support to help them feel safe and settled again.
The tenant was also dealing with personal challenges at the time. With support and encouragement, they were able to rebuild confidence and make positive changes. They later shared how much that support meant to them.
This is just one example of the kind of support we provide every day.
I’ve shared a short video below to give you an insight into what my role looks like day to day and some of the things we support with.
