How my life has changed because of the Employment Support Service

Hello, I'm Medine!

After being out of work for three years due to maternity leave, I faced many challenges trying to re-enter the workforce. I applied for countless jobs and often felt discouraged. That’s why I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join ForHousing on a six-month paid placement as a Commercial Management Administrator. This role has not only helped me rebuild my confidence but also allowed me to work in a flexible and supportive environment where I can balance my career and family life something that means so much to me as a mum.

Hello, I'm Medine!

When I first started, some tasks were completely new to me, while others were familiar but felt challenging because I hadn’t practiced them for so long. At first, it was hard, but with time and support from my team, my confidence has grown significantly. Now, I feel more capable and prepared for future opportunities.

What has your experience been like since joining the Employment Support Service and starting your placement?

My experience has been very positive and insightful. Joining the Employment Support Service and stepping into the role of Commercial Management Administrator has allowed me to understand the commercial side of housing and how it supports the wider organisation. It’s been a great opportunity to learn and contribute in a meaningful way.

How has the experience so far impacted your confidence, skills, or career aspirations?

This placement has boosted my confidence in handling complex administrative tasks and strengthened my attention to detail. I’ve developed skills in data management, reporting, and communication, which are essential for commercial operations. These skills will also be invaluable as I work toward my long-term aspiration of pursuing a career in law, where precision and analytical thinking are key.

What has been the most rewarding part of working within ForHousing

The most rewarding part has been seeing how my work supports the delivery of services that make a real difference for tenants. Being part of a team that values collaboration and innovation has been motivating and fulfilling. As a tenant myself, it feels especially meaningful to contribute to an organisation that truly cares about people’s situations.

What do you think is the value of having tenants working within the organisation?

Tenants bring a unique perspective that helps shape better services. Their lived experience ensures that decisions are practical and inclusive, which strengthens trust and engagement between the organisation and the community.

What are your hopes or plans for after the placement ends?

After the placement, I hope to continue building on the skills I’ve gained and secure a permanent role in commercial management or a related area within ForHousing. At the same time, I plan to take steps toward my ultimate goal of a career in law, using the confidence and experience I’ve gained here as a strong foundation. My ambition is to keep contributing to projects that create positive outcomes for tenants and communities while preparing for the next chapter in my professional journey.
