I wanted to share David’s story, a veteran I’ve been supporting as he settled into his home.
When David was first offered his home, it was about more than just having a roof over his head. He needed somewhere he could feel safe, secure, and able to start again. Moving in can feel overwhelming, so we worked together to make things as straightforward as possible, taking each step at his pace.
As he began to settle in, we spent time helping his home feel right for him. This included working on his garden together. It might seem like a small thing, but having a space he could enjoy really helped it start to feel like home.
Support doesn’t stop once someone moves in. I still pop round now and then for a chat and to see how he’s getting on. Those regular check-ins help make sure everything is going well and that he continues to feel settled and connected in his community.
Seeing the difference a stable home has made for David has been really positive, and shows just how important the right support can be.
