Living green

The environment we live in matters to us.

Through our Homes Strategy, we’re committed to deliver safe, well maintained, sustainable and affordable homes.

We will do this by:

  • The development of new high quality, energy efficient homes that meet current
    and future housing need;
  • Implementing green initiatives that reduce carbon emissions associated with
homes and reduce your energy costs

Climate change is one of the biggest issues ForHousing communities will face in the future, and we want to play our part in minimising the impact and creating safe, well maintained and sustainable homes for you and your family.

We want to empower you to feel confident and able to save money and the environment, making your corner of the world a better, safer place to live for generations to come.

Decarbonisation means reducing the amount of energy and resources that we use. It focuses on removing as much carbon from the atmosphere as possible.

The Government have set a goal of bringing all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

It saves you money…

Reducing the amount of water, gas, and electricity you use can save you money on utility bills.

For example, just turning off the lights when you leave a room or turning off electrical appliances like TVs, computers and fans can save up to £15 a year.

Even switching out your light bulbs to LEDs instead of halogen bulbs can save up to 80% in how much energy they use.

It saves the environment…

By using less energy, you can have a big impact on reducing the effects of global warming, which causes climate change.

It saves our future…

We want to guarantee a bright future for the next generation. By cutting down on energy use now, we can make the world a better place for our children, and their children.

Carbon Community Panel

The Carbon Community Panel is a chance to meet other likeminded individuals who share your passion for sustainability. Members get together every three months and get involved with projects like makeovers of green spaces in your local area, co-creation of green and sustainable services, and other projects that matter to you and your community. We also provide members with Carbon Literacy training, designed to increase awareness and understanding of carbon emissions and their impact on climate change. It equips members with the knowledge and skills needed to reduce their carbon footprint.

We work alongside you, and the other panel members, to create better, greener homes and places for your community.
