Housing Officers

Housing Officers support you throughout your tenancy and help look after neighbourhoods. They work closely with tenants, communities, and partner services to help keep homes safe, well managed, and supported.

You may not always deal with the same Housing Officer, but working in teams helps us provide consistent support, respond more quickly to issues, and make sure help is available when it’s needed.

How we support you and your neighbourhood

Housing Officers play a key role in supporting tenancies and neighbourhoods. Their work includes:

Supporting you when you move into your home and helping make sure it continues to meet your needs

Helping with neighbourhood issues such as gardens not being maintained, graffiti, pests, and abandoned homes

Managing lowlevel antisocial behaviour when it is first reported

They also carry out walkabouts and checks of communal and shared areas, provide guidance if you’re thinking about moving home, buying your home or need adaptations. They will also offer advice and signposting to other services if extra support is needed .

Some of this work happens out in neighbourhoods, and some takes place behind the scenes, working with partners to help resolve issues that affect your area.

Walkabouts and neighbourhood checks

Housing Officers regularly carry out walkabouts and neighbourhood checks to identify issues and make sure they’re followed up.

You may not always see these visits taking place, and you may not always see the same officer. This work happens as part of looking after neighbourhoods and working with local services to improve shared areas.

Landlord & local authority responsibilities

We always want to help where we can, but some issues affecting neighbourhoods are the responsibility of the local council rather than ForHousing.

Housing Officers can help with issues linked to your home, tenancy, and neighbourhoods we manage. For things like bins, roads, street lighting, or services on public land, your local council is usually responsible.

Landlord & local authority responsibilities

If an issue isn’t something we can deal with directly, your Housing Officer can help explain who is responsible and point you in the right direction.

Find out more about who does what, and how to contact your council, on our Landlord and local authority responsibilities page.

Annual visits from a Housing Officer

Housing Officers carry out annual visits as part of their role.

  • These visits give us the opportunity to:
  • Check in and make sure everything is going okay in your home
  • Get to know you and understand what matters to you

This is also an opportunity for you to talk through any questions or concerns you may have. If a visit is due, we’ll always contact you in advance to arrange a suitable time.

How to contact your Housing Officer

We know many of you would prefer to contact your Housing Officer directly.
To help make sure you get the right support as quickly as possible, we ask that all first contact goes through our Customer Connect Hub. This means your enquiry is picked up straight away and directed to the right place.
You can contact the team by:
• Calling 0300 123 55 22
• Completing the online form below, and selecting ‘Request to speak to your Housing Officer’
• Using the Live Chat button in the right-hand corner of the website
• Book an appointment to speak to us here

The team will listen to your enquiry and, if it needs a Housing Officer, pass it directly to the team for your area so we can get in touch with you. If another service is better placed to help, they’ll make sure it’s directed there instead.
This approach helps us respond more quickly, avoid delays, and make sure urgent issues are prioritised.
