Helping tenants build confidence and access employment opportunities

Employment is about more than finding a job. It can help people build confidence, develop new skills and create opportunities for a more positive future.

Our Tenancy Resilience Service (TRS) works alongside tenants to provide personalised support, helping people overcome barriers, gain valuable experience and progress towards employment.

What we've been doing

Over the past year, the team has supported tenants with a range of employment and skills development needs.

This has included helping people to:

  • Build CVs and improve job application skills
  • Access one-to-one employment coaching and guidance
  • Gain valuable work experience and placement opportunities
  • Develop new skills through accredited and non-accredited training
  • Access employment opportunities through employer and partner networks

Across Oldham, Salford and Stockbridge Village, TRS supported 224 tenants, including 283 referrals and 135 starts.

Everyone’s circumstances are different, which is why support is tailored to individual needs, skills and ambitions.

How this makes a difference

Having the right support and opportunities can make a real difference.

Over the past year:

These outcomes demonstrate how personalised support can help people develop skills, build confidence, improve their financial wellbeing and create pathways into long-term employment.

Making a difference

A key part of the service is helping people develop the confidence and experience needed to achieve their employment goals.

One tenant supported by TRS had spent three years out of work following maternity leave and had experienced a number of unsuccessful job applications. Through support from the team, they secured a six-month paid Trailblazer placement, helping them gain valuable experience and rebuild their confidence.

A few months later, they successfully progressed through the Tenant Talent Pool and secured a permanent role with ForHousing.

Looking ahead

We’ll continue working with tenants, employers and partner organisations to provide opportunities that help people develop new skills, build confidence and progress towards sustainable employment.
