Moving home is a big step, and we’re here to make the process as simple and supportive as possible.
Whether you’re moving somewhere new, acting on someone’s behalf, or ending a tenancy following a bereavement, this page explains what you need to do and what happens next.
Most people give around four weeks’ notice, starting on a Sunday but we understand that everyone’s situation is different.
If you need more or less time, or you want to change the date, please get in touch with us on 0300 123 5522 so we can help you.
You can also end a tenancy online by completing our online form
To avoid being charged for extra work or additional rent, please make sure you:

Take final gas and electricity meter readings and leave any meter keys in place
6
Tell your gas, electric, Council Tax and (if relevant) Housing Benefit provider that you are moving
7
Let us know the forwarding address
8
Leave any window keys in the home
9
Turn off your water supply (usually found under the kitchen sink — contact us if you’re unsure)
If you’re struggling to clear or remove items, let us know. We may be able to support you or offer guidance.
