The evacuation strategy for College Croft is ‘Stay Safe.’ You may also hear this called a ‘Stay Put’ policy.
College Croft is designed that should a fire occur; it is safe to stay in your flat. However, if your flat is affected by fire or you feel unsafe due to a fire somewhere else in the building, you will need to evacuate if it is safe to do so.
The ‘stay safe’ policy does not apply to the communal lounge, kitchen area or office spaces and in the event of the alarm sounding within this space, we ask that you leave this area via the nearest emergency exit. Please use the staircase to exit the block and you do not try to return to your flat until you are told it is safe to do so by the fire service
Please ensure you read the annual fire safety information we provide and also the ‘Building Safety Engagement strategy’ for further information on fire safety.
College Croft has a Fire Risk Assessment carried out annually or earlier if there are any significant changes.
It is important that we have your up to date personal information, and you let us know any changes to your health that may impact you evacuating.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the consultation earlier this year about the condition of your building’s external walls and cladding, because of your feedback, the removal and repair work started on 30 March 2026.
The removal of the existing cladding system at College Croft will be completed on Friday 22 May 2026. Thank you for your patience while this important safety work has taken place.
Before we start, we have to go through a Government approval process. This is mandatory and is designed to make sure high rise buildings like College Croft meet the highest possible safety standards. It can take a few months and we’ll keep you updated.
You may notice that things look quieter on site for a little while. This is expected.
As soon as we receive Gateway approval, work will begin almost immediately. You will see:
- Scaffolding being put back up
- Safety hoarding installed around the site
- Contractors returning to start the main programme of works
This next stage is where the full replacement of the cladding system takes place.
We’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption.
