The Willows development is improving lives and boosting community spirit
We care about spending money wisely and to get involved in things that have the most benefit in communities.
The Willows, which opened in October 2017 and cost over £11 million including around £3 million in funding, is no exception. The impact on people’s lives has been worth every penny.
Kate who lives in one of the 103 affordable homes at The Willows with her partner Russell says: “It’s made a massive difference to our lives.”
The couple were homeless for a while and Kate was struck with ill-health and unable to work. The stress and heartache were too much to bear. She says she feels lucky to have been allocated a home – and on the ground floor too.
“If I didn’t have a ground floor flat, I’d be stuck in. I can get out and do most things,” she says.
There’s a great sense of community spirit and people look out for each other. Kate loves being at home and also enjoys being central to everywhere with lots of community facilities on the doorstep.
