Reita helps reduce social isolation with snack and chat

Reita Sheehy, who lives in Cadishead, has always been an active member of her community.

Two years ago, Reita and a friend decided they wanted to do something to help people in the local area who may be feeling socially isolated.

They came up with the idea to host a monthly lunchtime meet-up called Snack and Chat to help people make connections with each other.

Snack and Chat is free to local people and offers sandwiches, tea and coffee and a raffle. Often they will book experts to come along to the sessions to talk to members about different topics. This has included United Utilities who came and spoke about water efficiently and reducing bills.

Reita organises the sessions each month, and has recently applied to ForHousing’s Community Fund, which offers support to local groups and activities. She has successfully secured £500 to help cover the costs of future sessions.

Reita said: “The Snack and Chat offers support to local people. By volunteering, I am giving something back. It’s helping someone else and it’s giving me a purpose.”
