A Housing Officer had been supporting a tenant for some time and needed to arrange a full rewire after a previous rat infestation damaged the wiring.
The tenant and her adult son agreed to clear the home. We arranged temporary accommodation and storage for some belongings so the work could go ahead.
On the day, the contractors couldn’t start because boxes were blocking access. With the tenant’s permission, the Housing Officer and TSS Officer helped move and box items to create a safe working route.
After the rewire, the family returned home and were frustrated that damp and mould hadn’t been tackled at the same time. The Housing Officer helped calm the situation, supported the tenant to tidy up, and helped clean the fridge after dust from the works got inside.
The tenant lives with bipolar disorder and was finding things difficult. With practical help and steady encouragement, she was able to make positive changes at home and rebuild confidence. She now works at ForHousing and later told the Housing Officer (at a Careers in Housing event) how much that support meant to her.
