Change Your Choices
Change Your Choices is an award-winning partnership initiative that works with local 10 to 16 year olds who are in danger of becoming involved in criminal and nuisance behaviour. Designed to be hard-hitting and inspirational, the programme shows the impact of ASB on communities – ranging from drug and alcohol abuse and the impact of hoax calls on the emergency services to visits to prisons and homeless shelters.
Change Your Choices also benefits from a workshop by Sylvia Lancaster, the mother of hate-crime victim Sophie Lancaster and Chief Executive of the foundation set up in her daughter’s name, who provides a harrowing first-hand account on how violent behaviour can tear families and lives apart.
Beginning life as a stand-alone programme, the course has since been integrated into The Prince’s Trust Development Programme, adding additional value to young people who can use their experience to gain qualifications and skills which increase their chances of getting a job.
Jahred Render from Little Hulton is just one of the young people who has taken part in Change Your Choices – and is now determined to make the right life choices. Jahred said: “I've learnt a lot and it’s made me realise what could happen if I do things like throwing fireworks or drink and drive.
“Change Your Choices has helped me to help myself and it’s good to know that I have that support behind me. The course has made me realise that I can do anything I put my mind to in the future.”
