Getting involved has changed my life - Antony Spurway

“I am very proud of what I have done and looking forward to the future”

I am passionate about making a difference to the services provided for both tenants and leaseholders of Cheshire West and Chester Council. In the summer of 2014, I attended an event in my local area and met the Engagement team to hear how I could get involved. I joined the scrutiny panel (now ForHousing Service Excellence Group) with limited knowledge about the housing service. With the help and support provided by the Engagement team, the training provided by the organisation, participation at customer conferences and meeting with other scrutiny panels, I developed my knowledge and understanding.

With these skills, I have been able to influence the way the housing management provider delivers its services to tenants and leaseholders, making recommendations on improvements and bringing new ideas to shape the service for the future. On a personal level, I have gained confidence in speaking to both tenants and staff, learnt how to analyse information, developed my questioning techniques, presentation skills and have gained experience in working as a team.

If you are interested in hearing more about how you can get involved, I would encourage you to take that first step and find out about the various opportunities available. Getting involved really does make a difference and gives you a sense of pride to be part of the team, striving for continuous improvement.
