Andrew builds new career after two years unemployed
Andrew from Salford had been out of work for two years when he joined the Skills for Employment programme on a work placement after spotting the opportunity via Job Centre Plus.
ForViva works in partnership with The Manchester Growth Company and European Social Fund to deliver the Skills for Employment programme aiming to get customers back into work, education or training.
Andrew undertook a part-time eight-week work experience placement in ForViva’s Employment and Enterprise Team where his abilities were recognised by his new colleagues and his confidence increased.
Prior to this the 31-year-old had done a range of office based administrative temping jobs but had been unable to secure permanent employment and found he did not have the confidence to sell himself at interviews.
Andrew said: “This placement has turned things around for me. I have been so well supported and the team have helped me to see my abilities in a new light, it’s been a genuinely uplifting experience.”
After completing his two-month placement, Andrew continued to volunteer at ForViva and went on to secure a part-time role.
This could not have come at a better time as Andrew’s rent on his home had just increased and the additional income meant he could keep a roof over his head.
More recently Andrew has secured a full-time post administering an employment and skills programme for the Group.
He is now self-sufficient and no longer in receipt of benefits. He has also recently gained his Level 3 qualification in Education and Training.
Andrew said: “I don’t know what I would have done without this opportunity. ForViva provided me with the environment I needed to demonstrate my skills and abilities and it has given me the confidence to perform well at interview.
“I am really happy in myself now. Being unemployed for such a long time was depressing, stressful and demoralising. I now have a job I love, hope for the future and new friends in my work colleagues too.
“I’m excited about how my career will grow in the future with ForViva.”
